Hello, and welcome to my food blog! Just in case you were wondering, the blog got it’s name because it means no onions in Arabic. Here I will chronicle recipes, tips, and ideas for having an onion-free but still flavourful and exciting dining experience.
Some people think it is very strange to avoid onions since they are considered to be a very healthy vegetable, but it’s more common than you might think. Some people just don’t like the taste of onions, and some devout Buddhists (not all sects) will avoid onions and garlic altogether. My husband is the former, and will avoid them at all costs. Actually, mafi basal was one of the first words he taught me in the Arabic language (after hello and how are you). As a result of that, my kitchen has become an onion-free zone. The home kitchen is the easy part, when dining out, or traveling in foreign countries – this is where the trouble begins…I’ll tell you about those experiences later….
