I haven’t been to Asia since I was young, really young. I just never had the budget to go back, but I would really like to. There is just so much to see and taste – it is hard to decide on where to go first!
Luckily, I have family that visits Asia often, and more often than not – they bring back snacks for me to sample.
My Dad was recently on vacation in Taipei, Taiwan, and he brought back this box of cookies/cakes. I’ve seen these in Asian grocery stores, and I think they’re called pineapple cakes or tarts…unfortunately, I can’t read Chinese, so if anyone reading can let me know what is written on the wrappers, please leave it in the comments below!
If you’ve never had it before, they are filled with a thick jam/compote fruit (pretty sure it is pineapple) filling encased in a thin buttery tender crust. Like most Asian snacks or cakes, it is not overly sweet! Whenever I try new Western style cookies/snacks, this is often the problem…but in Asia, this is rarely the case.
Have any of you ever tried these before? Please let me know in the comments below!
